The week-long strike of stewards and stewardesses from Air France cost the airline about 90 million euros. That stated for France Info radio, President and CEO of the French airline Frédéric Gagey, quoted by AFP.
According to his words, this is an extremely large amount – the cost for a long-haul aircraft.
According to Frédéric Gagey, it will also affect badly the financial results of the company, but still “Air France” will have positive operating results in 2016 as well as in 2015.
He also expressed regret for the negative impact of the protest on the appearance of “Air France”.
Two unions of the flight crew, representing 46% from this staff, called for a weeklong strike from July 27 to August 2 in protest against the renewal for a period of 17 months of their collective bargaining agreement setting out the rules for work, remuneration, and promotion . According to them, this period is insufficient, as well as the measures proposed by management in connection with the reduction of crews.
The protest has affected 180,000 customers of “Air France,” said Frédéric Gagey.
He accused the unions of extreme action, as according to him, there was no urgent need for protest between July and August when is the busiest traffic in France.
