747 threatened to become history

One of the largest US aircraft manufacturers – Boeing might have to say goodbye to its emblematic airliner Boeing 747 if  the number of orders for the machine doesn’t rise soon.

From Boeing said that they otherwise would probably have to stop the plane’s production, writes CNN Money.

The company has already announced that it is reducing the number of machines produced by half, as from 12 new aircraft a year, now are going to be produced only 6.

The possibility to end production of the plane is coming after interest in buying the machine has decreased in recent years.

This is due to the strategy of airlines that prefer to direct their resources towards smaller planes, often preferred machines are those with two engines. The aim of the companies is thus saving on fuel.

In the list of machines, the interest in which has lately dropped is Airbus A380. The massive machine is also affected by the trend and demand for the aircraft marks a significant downturn.

A blow on the demand of 747 turned out to be the presented last year by the Pentagon next generation of Air Force One. The machine will be a version of the 747 airliner and will be used for military purposes.

Since the beginning of the year, shares of Boeing have taken on the way down and decreased by 7%.
